SALT A - PEEL
POSITIVE RESULTS
Salt-based Microdermabrasion replaces old dermabrasion and provides
faster, better, safer skin rejuvenation when compared with traditional
microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that has been employed in Europe
for more than 10 years, and in the USA for the past 6 years. As
the name implies, the process involves abrasion of the skin at the
microscopic level. That is, it exfoliates the skin using non-reactive
salt crystals to remove the dead and damaged cells from the surface
of the skin, leaving skin more radiant and more youthful in appearance.
Applications
- all skin types
- all ages
- sunspots
- melasina
- rosy skin
- enlarged pores
- scarring from acne or chicken pox
- aging skin
- fine wrinkles
- acne
- sun damaged skin
- stretch marks
Contraindications
- Acutane during the past month
- Undiagnosed or unknown cancerous lesions
- Recent Herpes outbreaks
- Certain forms of active dermatitis, e.g. weeping acne, active
rosacea
- Unstable diabetes
- Auto immune disorders affecting the skin
Procedure
- The precision hand-piece directs a continuous stream of very
fine crystals of salt across the skin. The gentle abrasive action
of the crystals removes the dead outer layer of the skin allowing
the healthy smoother skin underneath to glow and grow. Exfoliation
is very rapid and effective in juveniles, and slower and less
effective as we age. Micro dermabrasion augments this process
safely and effectively, facilitating the migration of healthy
new functional cells to the dermis, while removing the dysfunctional
or dead tissue on the surface. It is essentially a case of "out
with the old, and in with the new."
- The mechanical stimulation of skin by the vacuum on the handpiece also appears to stimulate growth of the "baby" skin cells ai the base of the dermis. These cells populate the dermis in greater density where they do their duty by producing more connective tissue, the substance that absorbs water and gives skin tone. The vacuum also improves circulation, which is productive at times of increased growth and activity. Another pleasant circulation is the "afterglow".
- During the course of micro dermabrasion treatments the skin
becomes highly porous and receptive to nutritional and growth-
promoting topical products. This is the ideal time to utilize
such products to enhance rejuvenation and restoration of the skin.
This modality of skin beautification even in isolation is proving
to be powerful stimulus for correction of aged or damaged skin,
but the ability to penetrate into the skin is greatly enhanced
by micro dermabrasion, and hence it has become standard practice
to combine these powerful modalities.
Results
- Skin feels soft and smooth immediately after the first treatment.
It is important to realize however that rejuvenation and restoration
is a deeper event that develops gradually and is usually noticed
after the third treatment. Improvement continues until after the
sixth treatment for normal skin, and may extend beyond this for
problematic skin. Typically treatments are spaced 1 - 2 weeks
apart, but the schedule is flexible.
- Scientific studies have revealed marked changes in the skin
at the microscopic level, and to the naked eye of the trained
observer. Changes include: better reorganization of the layers
of skin, larger cell population in the dermis, (connective tissue
matrix which absorbs water), more youthful appearing skin surface,
reduction or elimination of abnormal brown and pink spots, reduction
in the fine wrinkling pattern of aging skin, smoother surface
texture, reduction or elimination of pitting or bumpiness of skin
surface, reduction in acne scarring, smoothing and unblocking
of prominent overactive pores and improved radiance of skin. There
are increasing reports in the scientific literate that active
acne and rosacea dermatitis have improved markedly with microdermabrasion
and topical nutritional regimens.

Safety & Side Effects
- This procedure is also known as the "Lunchtime Peel" because it is often done on a break with full expectation of return to work without side effects.
- The procedure is very safe and is preformed by a Certified Esthetician.
- This is not considered by most to be a painful procedure. Most
liken the sensation to a cat's tongue on the skin. Most perceive
the procedure as highly relaxing. Like a deep facial massage.
- Side effects are minimal and transient, if they occur at all. Some might experience flushing for a few hours, or flakiness, indicative of exfoliation and recycling of skin. Occasionally there may be some bruising on the neck.
- The wasted salt is vacuumed off the skin by the hand-piece and stored in a receptacle until disposal. There is no exposure to contaminated crystals.
- Make-up may be applied immediately after treatment.
Pre-Treatment Care
- no acid peels, retinols (e.g. Differin gels) for 3 days pre-treatment
- minimize risk of hyperpigmentation in dark skinned individuals
by pre- and post-treatment with Hydroquinone
Post-Treatment Care
- No acid peels, or retinols (e.g. Differin gels) 3 days after procedure
- No waxing, depilatory, collagen injections within 7 days following
procedure
- No tanning during course of treatments
- Use products during the course of micro dermabrasion including:
- sunscreen 365 days per year
- antioxidant daily
- vitamin C as indicated
- tretinoin as indicated
Licensed Practical Nurses
and Certified Estheticians are trained and perform this
procedure.
