Treating acne
Struggling with acne? Want to look good and have greater confidence
in your appearance? Now you can. In approximately 6 weeks most people
will transform their appearance by experiencing reduced inflammation
and redness associated with acne reducing the incidence of scarring.
How long will it take for my acne to clear? Most patients' acne
goes into remission within 3 treatments (after 6-12 weeks of your
first treatment). Some types of acne may be more stubborn and more
than 3 treatments may be required.
Treating sun damage
Until now, the majority of sun-damaged skin has been treated with
liquid nitrogen. Photodynamic therapy has been used successfully
to treat sun damaged skin without adverse effects resulting in improved
colour, texture and appearance of your skin.
Will I feel any discomfort?
Most patients will experience minimal discomfort during PDT therapy
within the standard course of treatment. The procedure usually takes
less than an hour to perform. Expect slight redness and peeling/flaking
of the outer skin cells up to 3-4 days following treatment. Under
the light source you will feel slight warmth, but will not receive
a tan. You will need to stay indoors for 24 hours following the procedure
and avoid light since the PDT therapy is still active.
Is there a new way to control moderate acne?
There are many treatments for moderate acne - creams, washes, medications
- mild ones and very strong ones. However, your doctor may decide
that certain medications, such as antibiotics, aren't right for
you. Your case of moderate acne may not be responding to medications
or other conventional treatments. It may be hard for you to keep
up with complicated routines of skin care. Maybe it is time to consider
something new.
Advantages over other treatments?
PDT is one of the most effective treatments.
Quick response (only 1-3 treatments are required)
Easily performed at Sheila's Day Spa & Laser Centre
Non-invasive (no needles or surgery required)
Excellent cosmetic outcome (improved colouring, texture
and tone)
Other treatments can take up to 4 months versus a very quick response
with PDT (up to 6 weeks).
How many treatments will I require?
While initial results may be seen as early as the first session,
some patients require a series of three to five sessions to see
significant results. However, it really depends on the patient and
the severity of the skin condition being treated.
How successful is it?
Up to 90% of patients undergoing treatments have received tremendous
results.
Are the results permanent?
PDT is a treatment, not a cure. Most results will last 1-2 years,
depending on lifestyle choices.
How much does the treatment cost?
How much would you be willing to pay to transform your appearance?
The cost of the treatment will vary depending on what you are treating
and the number of treatments that you will require.
Is this treatment covered by my health insurance
plan?
No, these treatments are not covered since they are considered
'cosmetic' in nature. Please consult your physician to determine
if any aspects of this treatment may be covered or if they would
be tax-deductible.

Licensed Practical Nurses perform
all procedures.
